I am trying to raise some Zinnia seeds in trays. Should I fertilise them with anything in these trays to help them along a little.

I would like to hear your opinion on this. We have been growing Zinnias, Peonies, and Irises for a couple of years now. We are taking the plunge next year and turning our back yard into a flower garden. The back yard used to be a vegetable garden. It has been eight years since we grew veggies. Getting close to retirement, we want more beauty. We are in the high desert with very sandy soil. Since New Mexico legalized cannabis, all of the garden stores cater to that industry. Our city makes compost at the waste collection site. I do not know the make up, but we do use it on our school landscaping, it seems to do very well. We have a growing Seed and Sprout community here and I would like to use my back as a community garden, for our members. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bringing beauty and pollinators, we are losing bees at an alarming rate, to Carlsbad, NM.

I so appreciate your time and for all hat you all do, and so admire your passion for all the hard work. I live in about 45 minutes away from Portland Maine. I have opportunity to work on farm land, which has many acres of land to utilize,, and I so desire to grow many flowers. However, the land is infested with invasive weeds. And one of them is Thistle, vine weeds and more. If I may, I want to ask you what must I do this Fall to kill the invasive weeds with organically so that I may be able to plant new Spring Season, 2025
I am thinking that I sure tarped this fall, also spend time to do some reach to find founding, if there is an opportunities I have not know it about it yet. Thank you SO very much for your time. YoungSook Beausoleil

Hi Vicky,
How exciting that you’re setting up your first flower garden! We don’t let the soil rest during the preparation phase- just go for it and be sure to use plenty of fertilizer and compost. Good luck!

The ground is poor and hard (clay). I will start with turning the grass down and add compost. Do I have to wait or let the ground rest in between the turning and the compost? And how long after adding the compost, can I go on with the fabric and the driplines?
I want grass in between my beds to have a nicer look, does the landscape fabric causes problems when mowing the grass?

It’s freeze dried so retains very high numbers of microbes compared to teas. 💖
